FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING PHASE (FET) – GRADES 10 - 12
The National Curriculum Statement requires all learners in Grades 10 to 12 to do seven subjects of which four are compulsory and three are of their own choice.

Recording And Reporting In The FET Phase
The internal Programme of Assessment (POA) constitutes 25% of a learner’s final result. The final examination (summative assessment) constitutes 75%. A learner will be promoted only if she satisfies the requirements of both the continuous assessment (25%) and the final assessment (75%) components in all the Learning Areas.
Codes and percentages are used for recording and reporting.

1. To do a CERTIFICATE programme:
You need a National Senior Certificate (NSC)
2. To do a DIPLOMA programme:
You need a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in four recognised
NSC 20 credit-subjects
3. To do a DEGREE programme:
You need a National Senior Certificate(NSC) with an achievement of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in four recognised 20-credit
NSC subjects.
Note that each university will have its own minimum entry requirements over and above these per faculty
4. All subjects except Life Orientation carry 20 credits. Life Orientation carries 10 credits
