About Us

Welcome to our library.

We recently refurbished and extended our library to suit the needs of our school community as it is an important centre of teaching and learning at QGHS. As such, the library offers many services to both learners and educators. This ensures each student has equitable access to resources, irrespective of home opportunities or constraints and facilitates the work of the educator.

The library is open for girls at both first and second breaks where it’s a hive of activity as the librarian helps those that need her particular attention and a team of brilliant library monitors help with various tasks in the library. After school the library is a place of absolute quietness and serious study. No noise is tolerated at this time and all learners can come and do their homework, research or study with absolutely no disturbances.

We are fortunate that the school knows the importance of the library and have put aside funds that help to grow our collection. We provide and promote quality fiction to develop and sustain in the girls a habit and enjoyment of reading for pleasure and to enrich their intellectual, aesthetic, cultural and emotional growth. To achieve this we have asked girls to provide us with their wish list which will be used when acquiring new fictional materials.
We have a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, reference, audio, visual, print and video materials that are accessible to learners as well as educators. The special teachers’ resources collection compliments the resources available to educators for the achievement of the curriculum. We also keep and loan technical aids for teachers such as data projectors, OHPs and laptops that can be taken to be used in the classroom. Televisions, VCR and DVD players are also available with viewing space for classes that need such for lesson extension.

The library also has a number of computers that are all connected to the internet and to a printer so that our learners can do research, or print a word processing or spread sheet at the click of a button. In addition, we have photocopying machines and laminators available to both educators and girls.
